“The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy” — Gordon Lightfoot

This morning I was on Youtube learning about shipwrecks (as you do) when I discovered this UW- Madison lecture on the S.S Edmund Fitzgerald, the Lake Superior shipwreck made famous by a Gordon Lightfoot song.

Meteorology expert Steve Ackerman gets into the theories surrounding the disaster, the complex weather systems that caused it, and the lyrics that immortalized it.

His talk is worth checking out for maritime history buffs, folk music people, or anyone who didn’t know there are shipwrecks in the Midwest.
